In this third installment in the #1 bestselling Stalking Jack the Ripper series, a luxurious ocean liner becomes a floating prison of scandal, madness, and horror when passengers are murdered one by one…with nowhere to run from the killer. .

Audrey Rose Wadsworth and her partner-in-crime-investigation, Thomas Cresswell, are en route to New York to help solve another blood-soaked mystery. Embarking on a week-long voyage across the Atlantic on the opulent RMS Etruria, they’re delighted to discover a traveling troupe of circus performers, fortune tellers, and a certain charismatic young escape artist entertaining the first-class passengers nightly.

But then, privileged young women begin to go missing without explanation, and a series of brutal slayings shocks the entire ship. The strange and disturbing influence of the Moonlight Carnival pervades the decks as the murders grow ever more freakish, with nowhere to escape except the unforgiving sea. It’s up to Audrey Rose and Thomas to piece together the gruesome investigation as even more passengers die before reaching their destination. But with clues to the next victim pointing to someone she loves, can Audrey Rose unravel the mystery before the killer’s horrifying finale?

Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell are back and I couldn’t be happier! It’s no secret that I absolutely adore banter (give me all the sass!), so this couple is #goals.

I’ve been in love with this cover for months (even before I read the first book) and to have it in my hands felt so good. (I may have screamed. My neighbors may be concerned. They have a lot to learn about me and my book mail.)

There is so much I love about this book—and this series as a whole—that I could honestly probably write a detailed thesis at this point. But a) no one has time for that; b) I doubt any of you would want to read that; and c) there would way too many spoilers. So instead, I present to you the top five things I love about Escaping from Houdini:

1) What the what now?

Like the other books in the series, I absolutely could not figure out what the heck was happening—and I loved it. More than once, I felt like if I just concentrated a bit more, or if I squinted and turned the book upside, I would find that one piece of the puzzle and figure everything out. But I couldn’t. There’s nothing I dislike more than guessing the ending of a book (give me plot twists, please and thank you), and often I find myself learning how an author thinks and writes to the point where a few books in I form theories that turn out to be true. But three books in and Kerri Maniscalco has continued to stump me.

2) Magic and Mayhem abound!

I love how Kerri Maniscalco has taken historical figures, mythological figures, and now magical figures and created even more mystery to them. I’m also amazed at how far she goes with her books. The ideas and concepts that she has…. I would love the chance to meet her because I need to see what she’s like in real life.

3) Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell

In case it didn’t sink in earlier, Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell are #goals for me. The wit. The banter. I love it. I need more.

4) We’re on a boat!

So at first I was like, Okay…how is a murder mystery going to work successfully on a boat? And that thought lasted all of two seconds because Kerri Maniscalco is a genius and had so many ideas. The new setting was fantastic!

5) My heart hurts

After over four hundred pages, my heart ached. There was so many moments that I just wanted to bookmark and highlight to revisit because I was yelling, I was screaming, I was going to cry. It was beautiful.

In case you missed it, this was an A+, five-star read. If you haven’t read any of these books yet, make sure you check them out because they are incredible! I look forward to see what is to come in the future.

Kerri Maniscalco grew up in a semi-haunted house outside NYC where her fascination with gothic settings began. In her spare time she reads everything she can get her hands on, cooks all kinds of food with her family and friends, and drinks entirely too much tea while discussing life’s finer points with her cats.

Her first novel in this series, Stalking Jack the Ripper, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. It incorporates her love of forensic science and unsolved history.
